The 14th China-Singapore Forum Held in Chongqing

From September 23 to 24, the 14th China-Singapore Forum, co-organized by Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and East Asian Institute (EAI), National University of Singapore (NUS), and supported by China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity Administrative Bureau (CCIB) was held in Chongqing. The Chinese delegation was headed by Mr. Wang Chao, President of CPIFA. The Singaporean delegation was headed by Prof. Tommy Koh, Chairman of Center for International Law of NUS and Ambassador-At-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 




The forum consisted of closed-door meeting and public forum. At the closed-door meeting on September 23, Mr. Wang Chao, Prof. Tommy Koh and Amb. Stanley Loh, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to China delivered opening remarks respectively. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the topics of “China-Singapore and China-ASEAN Relations: An Update” and “China and Singapore: Under Major Changes in the World”. The public forum on September 24 featuring “China-ASEAN Connectivity: The Role of Chongqing”, was co-chaired by Amb. Ou Boqian, Vice President of CPIFA, and Mr. Ho Meng Kit, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Business Federation. Mr. Li Yong, Deputy Chair of the Expert Committee, China Association of International Trade(CAIT), Mr. Manu Bhaskaran, Adjunct Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Policy Studies, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS, Dr. Qu Bo, Director of Institute of International Relations, China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), Mr. Henry Kwek, Member of Singapore Parliament delivered keynote speeches and answered questions from audience. Around 120 people attended the public forum, including delegates of the Forum, representatives from the Management Committee and Special Committees of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, business leaders from the fields of finance, information, communication, logistics and aviation, journalists from municipal, central and international news agencies, as well as young college students.

In Chongqing, the Singaporean delegation was met by Ms. Pan Yiqin, Vice Mayor of the Chongqing Municipal Government. They also visited Guo Yuan Port and Raffles City, two examples of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity.
