Vice President Shi Ling visits Bulgaria with a CPIFA delegation

From 12th to 16th September 2023, at the invitation of the Bulgarian National Association for the Belt and Road, Mrs. Shi Ling, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), paid a friendly visit to Bulgaria and attended the International Conference on “PRC-Europe Dialogue in the name of progress: 10 Years Belt and Road Initiative” by heading a CPIFA delegation.

The International Conference was co-hosted by the CPIFA, the Bulgarian National Association for the Belt and Road, the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria, Xinhua Institute and China Center for Contemporary World Studies. Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and Mr. Deng Li, Secretary General of the Secretariat of Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries and China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent a congratulatory letter to the conference respectively. Mrs. Rositsa Kirova, Vice President of Bulgaria’s National Assembly, Mr. Nikolay Pavlov, Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, and H.E. Dong Xiaojun, Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria, attended the opening ceremony and delivered opening remarks respectively. Vice President Shi Ling attended the conference and delivered a keynote report and closing remarks at the opening and closing ceremonies respectively. She elaborated on the achievements in the Belt and Road cooperation over the past decade and in the China-CEEC cooperation over the past 11 years, briefed on China’s economic and social developments, and conducted in-depth discussions about how to promote the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with all the participants. Over 120 participants from nearly 20 European countries and regions were present at the conference. They exchanged views on the topics of the global vision and geopolitical challenges of the Belt and Road Initiative as well as cultural, media, scientific, entrepreneurship, youth cooperation.

During the visit, Vice President Shi Ling met respectively with former Bulgarian Presidents Peter Stoyanov and Rosen Plevneliev and Mr. Boyan Chukov, Foreign Affairs Advisor and Secretary of Security Affairs to former Bulgarian Prime Minister. The two sides held friendly exchanges about China-Bulgaria relations, China-Europe relations, China-CEEC cooperation, the Belt and Road Initiative, international and regional situation and other issues of common interests. Vice President Shi Ling exchanged in-depth views with Professor Zahari Zahariev, President of the Bulgarian National Association for the Belt and Road, over further cooperation between the two institutions. Before the conference, she also received an interview by TRUD, one of the major newspapers in Bulgaria, during which she briefed on the Belt and Road Initiative and China’s foreign policy. H.E. Amb. Dong Xiaojun and other embassy officials joined the meetings.
